Ten motorists have been charged for ignoring road closure orders in place following flooding.
The drivers were all charged on the B999 between Pitmedden and Tarves following reports from concerned residents in the area between Thursday evening and today, Friday, 15 January, 2016.
Sergeant Alex Carle from the Formartine Policing Team said: “The B999 between Tarves and Pitmedden is currently closed due to flooding at Ythsie. This has been caused by a blocked drain and the volume of water coming off the surrounding fields onto the road. As a result, the depth of water on the road is constantly changing and as such, Aberdeenshire Council has deemed it necessary to keep the road closed until satisfied it is safe. Checks are being carried out on a regular basis throughout the day.
“Drivers are urged to obey the road closures throughout Aberdeenshire which are in place to prevent motorists becoming stuck due to the volume of water lying or due to underlying damage to road surfaces, which may cause damage to vehicles.
“Ignoring these signs not only risks your own safety, but that of emergency services personnel who will be required to rescue you. It also prevents these vital resources from being able to help other people.
“Please remember that road closures are always in place for a reason. There are no excuses for ignoring these and if you fail to comply, you will be charged.”
Those who have been seen to be ignoring road closures have received a £50 road side fine and patrols will remain in place until the road is fully reopened.
