A90 closed after serious crash

The A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road has been closed this afternoon following a serious collision.

Police and ambulance teams were called to the scene of the crash just south of Toll of Birness just before 2pm.

Two vehicles were involved in the smash, which a police spokesman said was a “serious incident”.

The extent of the injuries of those involved in the crash are currently unknown.

As a result of the accident, the A90 has been closed between Ellon and Toll of Birness while emergency

Traffic is being diverted northbound through Ellon along the A948 Ellon to Auchnagatt route.

Southbound traffic is being diverted along the A975 coastal route through Newburgh.

UPDATE: Police have said that the A90 is estimated to stay closed until at least 9pm or 10pm while a collision investigation team attend the scene.

A spokeswoman for the fire service also confirmed that “a few” people have been cut free from the vehicles involved.

An ambulance spokesperson could not be contacted to confirm the extent of the injuries.
