A 25-year-old Skye fisherman threw an axe through the front door window of a couple he followed home after a night out.
Neil Corrigal, of Riverbank in Broadford, pleaded guilty to the charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner which was likely to cause fear or alarm in Shieldaig, Wester Ross, on September 6 last year.
Fiscal depute Ross Carvel told Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday that Corrigal and the complainers were at the pub together in Shieldaig prior to the incident.
Mr Carvel added: “They all drank together and appeared fine – however towards the end of the night the accused was described by complainers as a bit out of hand and getting out of control.
“Ultimately, the complainers left the property and went back to the locus and were followed by the accused, who ran after them. Once they arrived within, the accused picked up an axe lying in the garden there, and threw that, with it coming through the window in the door.
“The parties looked outside and saw the accused shouting and swearing in the garden. It’s estimated the repair to the window cost about £250.”
Corrigal’s defence solicitor, Roger Webb, said that his client is a fisherman who works five weeks on and one week off, and that he first spoke to him about the matter while at sea.
Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald deferred sentence until May 25 for the production of a background report.
Sheriff MacDonald told Corrigal that he will have to make sure he arranges his time at sea around this court date.
