A former Moray councillor has had his sentence for possessing photographs of naked children deferred until next month.
Sean Morton, now of Mayfield Street in Stirling, appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday after police found a stash of indecent images on his computer.
However, defence solicitor Laura Greer explained her client had “not received notification” of an appointment to prepare a background report.
The former Labour politician previously represented the Fochabers Lhanbryde ward on Moray Council until he was ousted at last year’s election.
Prosecutors have revealed that specialist police found seven illicit images on the councillor’s laptop.
At a previous court appearance, the 36-year-old admitted charges of possessing extreme pornographic material depicting adults engaging in sexual activity with animals between November 8 and 29, 2013, and a charge of “taking or permitting to be taken” indecent photographs of children on November 11 the same year.
A new sentencing hearing has been scheduled for February 1.
