A man has been jailed and banned from driving after leading police on a 40-minute long chase along north-east roads.
Shane Daniel was disqualified from driving for four years in February 2015 but bought a blue Toyota planning to do it up and sell it on.
However, in the early hours of April 8 this year he gave into temptation and got behind the wheel at 7.50am.
A short time afterwards he was spotted by police entering the A90 Fraserburgh to Peterhead road.
Officers indicated that they wanted him to stop and a lengthy high-speed chase ensued.
Daniel drove down the road and turned right towards the North Essie Cottages where he failed to give way at a T-junction.
At 8.09am he was spotted in the village of Rora where he ignored the 30mph speed limit and raced through at 62mph before heading along various unclassified roads towards Longside.
He continued to drive away from the police and eventually left the main road to drive along a forestry track.
Officers knew the path led back to the A90 and turned back to meet him again on the main road.
He managed to escape when he drove into a field but was later traced at his home.
Daniel, who is currently behind bars at HMP Barlinnie, admitted a charge of dangerous driving, driving without insurance and while disqualified during an appearance at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Sheriff Graeme Buchanan told Daniel: “Against the backdrop of your previous convictions a prison sentence is inevitable.”
He banned him from driving for five-and-a-half years and jailed him for 15 months.
