A man who was dropped off at home by the police after being found drunk in the street assaulted his mum – leaving her hiding in an alleyway.

Nathan Mitchell, 27, lashed out at his mum when she tried to put him to bed to sleep off his drunkenness.

Fiscal depute Christy Ward told Aberdeen Sheriff Court: “At the time of the offence the accused resided with his mother. At about 6.30pm, the accused was taken to the locus by police to be left in the care of his mother, having been found intoxicated in the street.

“She thereafter tried to put the accused to bed to sleep off his intoxication, however she was having difficulty with this.”

Mitchell pushed his mother on the shoulder and when she managed to get past him, he “slapped her with one hand to the top of her head leaving her with soreness”.

Ms Ward added the mum “had hidden from the accused in a lane or alleyway” and police found her “distressed”. Mitchell also punched a hole in the wall in the hallway.

He had previously pled guilty to assaulting his mother and wilfully or recklessly damaging a wall at the address on Alexander Crescent in Alford on March 27.

Defence agent John Ferrie said: “His mother is the one constant in his life who’s always been there for him and he’s absolutely gutted he acted in this manner.”

Sheriff Ian Wallace handed Mitchell, of Tillyfour Court, Alford, an eight-month restriction of liberty order.
