Objectors have failed to block another fish farm planned for Skye.
Councillors, meeting in Inverness yesterday, approved the Scottish Salmon Company’s application to instal 10 cages in the Sound of Raasay, southeast of Portree.
Objectors included the local fishery board but the north planning committee gave its unanimous blessing for the 125ft wide cages and access from Portree Harbour.
The Outer Portree Fish Farm will be beside the firm’s existing Torvaig Fish Farm.
There had been 19 objections from 17 separate addresses with complaints ranging from visual blight to the potential impact on native fish stocks and other marine life.
The widely argued issue of sea lice infestation at fish farms featured in the north planning committee’s deliberations but ultimately not considered a serious enough concern to block the development.
