A82 overnight closures in Glencoe to begin

The A82 will be closed overnight in Glencoe for almost two weeks starting this weekend.

Work begins on Sunday night to resurface a section south of the Tulla Viewpoint layby.

But because of the restricted width of the carriageway at this point, the road will be closed for 12 nights to allow the resurfacing to take place.

Work will start at 9pm each evening and will last until 7am, except for the busier times on Friday and Saturday nights.

A diversion will be in place for traffic via the A85 at Connell and the A828 at Ballachulish and the road will be open as normal during the day.

There is a height restriction on the diversion route for vehicles over 13 feet nine inches at the A828 Connel Bridge and drivers of high-sided vehicles should find an alternative route during working hours.

Alternatively, vehicles over the height restriction can travel along the A82 to Tulla Cottage where they, along with motorists requiring local access only, will be stacked and escorted through the work site only when it is safe to do so.

Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times, and local access only will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “The resurfacing improvements will help address the defects on this section of the A82 and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“We’ve planned the works to take place overnight and are avoiding working at the weekends to limit the impact on residents and motorists.

“We’ve carried out consultation with all relevant stakeholders to inform them of our plans, and we’ve taken their feedback into account during the planning stages of this scheme.

“Unfortunately the height restriction on the diversion will affect some vehicles so we would therefore encourage all motorists to plan ahead should they intend to travel during the stated working hours.”
