Members of the Highland Council’s Care, Learning and Housing Committee have recommended the Highland Council move forward with proposals relating to Gaelic Medium catchment areas in Lochaber and Wester Ross.
The committee has approved recommendations that will see the creation of a new Gaelic Medium catchment area for Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Loch Abar, with feedback sought from the local community over the establishment of a potential new Gaelic Medium catchment area for Ullapool Primary School.
Director of Care and Learning Bill Alexander approved the proposal for the new catchment area in Lochaber on the basis it offers educational benefits after the views of parents, pupils and the wider community were sought between January 29 and March 16 this year.
A similar consultation is to be held in relation to Ullapool Primary School, extending over a period from October 29 to December 10. A public meeting has been scheduled for November 12 in Ullapool Primary School.
Both proposals follow procedures laid out in The Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010.
