Two members of Royal Dornoch Golf Club are to take on a golf marathon in aid of health charities.

Pro shop duo Bradley Smith and Calum Paterson are limbering up to undertake their Longest Day Challenge on Saturday, June 20, on the world-renowned links course.

A target of £5,000 has been set to aid the work of the NHS and Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS), with the latter the chosen charity of club captain Rob Murray and ladies captain Norma Fleming.

The challenge, which will start at sunrise, about 4.15am, will continue until sunset, which is anticipated to be around 10.30pm.

The duo aim to play as many holes as possible in the allocated time, utilising both the Championship and Struie courses.

Mr Paterson, who is the retail manager at Royal Dornoch, said: “The Longest Day Challenge came to us as an idea in light of the recent events in the world, as well as raising money for the club captains’ charity at Royal Dornoch.”

He  is hopeful they can exceed their £5,000 target, with a competition also set up for people to guess the number of holes they will manage to play.

The challenge builds on Royal Dornoch’s support of local groups and the NHS earlier this year, using a percentage of the net green fees from visiting players.

Entries to the competition can be emailed to RDGC@royaldornoch.com, while donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/f/the-royal-dornoch-challenge
