Emergency teams have gathered on the shores near Inverness Caledonian Stadium following the discovery of a suspected piece of ordnance.
The object was spotted by members of the public shortly before 4pm yesterday.
HM Coastguard received the initial call from Police Scotland at 3.45pm reporting the discovery of what is believed to be “a possible piece of ordnance.”
Members of the Inverness Coastguard Rescue Team remain stationed at the scene to ensure the public stays clear of the area, as bomb disposal experts make their way north.
A spokeswoman from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said: “Coastguard teams are currently at the scene and the explosives disposal team (EOD) is expected to arrive tomorrow.”
HM Coastguard are urging members of the public to not approach the area, as teams work to identify the nature of the object.
