Organisers refuse to confirm RockNess 2015

The new event could be held at the former Rockness site

Organisers of a major north music festival have refused to confirm whether it will return next year.

RockNess was cancelled this year after organisers blamed a clash with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the football World Cup in Brazil.

And fears are now growing that the Dores event will not return for 2015 either.

A RockNess spokeswoman said: “All I can say is that we are exploring all options for RockNess and an announcement will be made in due course.

“There is no further information at this time.”

When the 2014 festival was called off, organisers global entertainment company AEG pledged to make the event bigger and better than ever in 2015.

The festival, was started in 2006 by DJ Fatboy Slim and at its height, RockNess attracted as many as 30,000 revellers over its three days.

In recent years, however, the festival has been plagued by rumours of dwindling ticket sales.

When the festival was cancelled earlier this year, business leaders said it would be a huge loss to the local economy.

Stewart Nicol, chief executive of Inverness Chamber of Commerce, said “It was a well established part of the calendar in an iconic setting and the business community was enjoying the benefits.

“I think that the event was busy enough and established enough that it would not have been affected by other events.”

Dores resident Councillor Norrie Donald said: “I had a feeling there might not be a festival next year to be perfectly honest but it does not come as a shock. It is very sad.”
