Ross County have played down reports of crowd disorder among Inverness Caledonian Thistle fans at the weekend’s Highland derby.
Caley Jags supporters were in loud voice as they thumped their rivals 3-0 on the day of the Staggies’ League Cup victory parade at a packed Victoria Park on Saturday.
Smoke bombs appeared to have been let off during the match in the away end, the only part of the ground that was not sold out, while at least one Caley-Thistle fan ran on to the pitch while celebrating a goal.
Inappropriate chanting was also reportedly directed at County chairman Roy MacGregor from the away fans.
It is understood some Caley-Thistle fans complained about heavy-handed stewarding during the game in Dingwall.
A spokesman for the Inverness club said yesterday that he could not comment on any of the claims until the club had held a debrief on the game this week.
The police were also unable to comment.
The official Caledonian-Thistle social media account thanked the away fans for their show of support, but County fans responded by accusing them of “disgraceful” chanting towards Mr MacGregor.
David O’Connor, stadium and services manager at Victoria Park, had not heard the chants, saying he would have been “less than happy” if it was true.
He added: “To be honest with you there weren’t any significant issues. Just what you would expect at a local derby.
“There was a guy came on to the pitch and I understand the police got a hold of him.
“There were a few smoke bombs let off by Caley fans in the ground. That’s a trend that continues to grow and is something the authorities need to stamp out.”
He added: “Thousands of people came out after and we had a fantastic parade.”
