An Elgin dad has died following a horrific crash involving a car and a van.

Shane Drury was rushed to hospital following the crash on the A96 Elgin to Fochabers road, near Moss of Barmuckity.

Last night, tributes were posted online by friends and loved ones of the 29-year-old.

Mum Pamela Drury said: “My beautiful handsome son Shane. Fly high babes. RIP my beauty. Love you loads and loads.”

His partner Louise Clyne said: “Love you loads babe, will never forget you. Just can’t believe it. Miss you already.”

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses who saw the crash between the white Peugeot 208 that Mr Drury was driving and the white Fiat Scudo van.

Officers believe Mr Drury’s car was entering Elgin while the other vehicle was leaving the town towards Lhanbryde at about 6pm on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old male van driver was taken by air ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with serious injuries.

A 52-year-old man who was the front-seat passenger of the vehicle also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.

Motorists who were driving at the time reported feeling “shaken” at the sight of the collision and the aftermath.

The car came to rest on its roof and debris was left strewn all over the verge of the road.

Drivers ran to the scene in an attempt to provide assistance before emergency services arrived at the scene.

Police shut the A96 between Elgin and Lhanbryde for more than seven hours as they attempted to free one of the men from the van and carry out crash investigations.

Sergeant Colin Matheson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and the men who were seriously injured at this difficult time.

“We have spoken to a number of witnesses but would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact police by calling 101.
