Two Lossiemouth community groups joined forces to help more than 600 families throughout lockdown.
The Lossiemouth Community Council and The Lossie 2-3 Group have been providing meals, food parcels, vouchers and free return bus travel to Elgin for needy families.
The volunteers have been working from Lossiemouth Baptist Church, with the meals provided by Moray Food Plus as part of their food recovery operation.
Louise McBride, from The Lossie 2-3 Group, said: “It all started when the community centre closed down due to the crisis and we are a foodbank referral group so we panicked as we had nowhere to put the referrals that are deliver to Lossie.
“The baptist church offered a hall and then it has moved on quickly with us giving out from 150 to 160 meals a week in the town.
“We have been able to secured funding thanks to help from the Lossiemouth Development Trust.
“We also have food parcels and funding available where we are able to issue Tesco vouchers so they can go and do shopping for people affected by Covid-19 pandemic.”
She hailed the town’s community spirit and praised the volunteers who stepped up.
