Organisers have expressed their delight after the Elgin Strathspey and Reel Scots Fiddle Festival hit all the high notes.

The 44th annual gathering on Saturday attracted 100 entries from Inverness, Aberdeenshire and as far afield as Edinburgh.

Primary school children competed in the morning and secondary school children and adults in the afternoon.

Ailsa MacLeod, of Keith, was the day’s youngest winner, taking home the Kim Murray Trophy in the nine-and-under category.

Milne’s High School won the secondary ensemble title, and George Davidson, of Tarves, won the championship class.

Festival co-secretary Louise McLean said the committee was delighted at the end of an extremely successful day.

She said: “We have a wealth of talent in this area, and we are extremely grateful for the support we receive from our instrumental instructors.

“We are also very grateful for the continued support we receive from Elgin Rotary Club. They have, for many years, donated a trophy and a bow for the best individual performance in the 13-16yrs section by a resident of Moray.”

Keith’s Rosie Winchester was awarded the rotary prize after coming third in the 13-16-year-old category and winning the slow air competition.

Adjudicator, Nicola Auchnie, said she was extremely impressed with the number of entries and the very high standard of playing throughout the day.
