A group of Moray dancers are hoping to raise more than £8,000 for local charities.

The June Roy School of Dance performed a three-night run of shows last week, with 200 dancers of all ages taking part.

Showtime was a two-act production comprising of the Wizard of Oz and a creative interpretation of the Seasons.

The school holds the concert every two years to raise money for local causes, but due to renovation work this was the first year they have held the event since 2012.

June Roy, who put together the show with her daughter Jayne, said: “This show was all about the performers and the kids. We had dancers ranging from two-and-a-half to adult students. It was a great show, and we are lucky that the public support us.

“This was the first concert we have held in the town hall since 2012 because of the renovations.

“We raised £8,000 then and we would like to hit the same target this year.”

Proud parent Jan Robinson, whose daughter Niamh was in the show, praised the efforts of the dance school.

She said: “I defy anyone that saw it to say that Showtime 2015 was anything other than a tremendous display of incredible talent and an immense credit, not only to June and Jayne, but to all the cast and performers, all their parents and all who helped deliver the wonderful show.”

The school was established in 1958 when Mrs Roy started teaching at St Giles Church Hall.

The total raised from this year’s show is yet to be tallied, but all funds raised will be donated to Children 1st and Anderson’s residential home.
