The family of an Aberdeenshire man killed in a “horrific” two-car smash on a rural road have spoke of their heartbreak.

George Dow, 28, died when his white Vauxhall Corsa van collided with a blue Honda CRV on the B9001 Inverurie to Rothienorman road at the Mains of Glack, near Daviot.

Mr Dow, who was known as Dod to his friends, had been living in the Rothienorman area but is believed to have been brought up in Kemnay.

Yesterday his family said in a statement they were “devastated” by his death.

They said: “As a family, we are devastated at the sudden and tragic loss of George.”

Tributes for the popular Aberdeenshire man came pouring in through social media, whilst flowers continued to mount up at the scene of the crash – with one pal calling him a “good Kemnay loon”.

Friend Becky Young said: “Miss you already pal, you are one of the best guys I’ve ever known. We will all stick together for you.”

Another friend, Chris Clark, said: “RIP Dod, gutted to hear another good Kemnay loon has been taken so young. Thoughts with your family.”

Samantha Laing added: “You was taken away far too young, you will be missed by many George, take care up there. Thoughts are with your family at this sad time.”

Another friend said: “No way bud, couldn’t quite believe it yesterday but now it’s been confirmed. Totally shocked. My thoughts go out to your family, RIP dude. Life’s nae fair sometimes.”

Meanwhile police have confirmed the 39-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of the Honda remains in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in a serious condition following the crash on Saturday.

A 39-year-old man, a nine-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl who were also in the car have now been released from hospital having suffered minor injuries.

Following the incident, Sergeant Jon Barron, of Aberdeen’s roads policing unit, described it as “a horrific collision”.

Officers are still carrying out inquires into the collision and have urged anyone with information to get in touch.

The crash happened just 24 hours after Kintore man Christopher Watts died when his orange motorbike collided with a grey BMW on the B977 Echt to The Birks road on Friday.
