Jim McIntyre hopeful new signing can help County beat drop

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre believes Craig Curran’s work ethic and desire can add a new dimension to the club’s attempts to escape relegation.

The 25-year-old marked his debut with the equalising goal as 10-man County fought back to earn a precious Premiership draw at Dundee yesterday.

Curran has been brought into replace attacker Yoann Arquin, who left the club at the weekend after failing to win a new deal, and McIntyre believes the former Tranmere Rovers player’s qualities are exactly what is required.

McIntyre said: “Curran had a great debut, putting his chance away following a great ball in from Filip Kiss.

“He is a player who is going to offer us something different and you can see he doesn’t give opponents a minute’s peace in a game.

“Hopefully, that will help our other strikers as well as he set the tone with his desire to close people down and put them under pressure and that’s something we’ve been missing.

“He was running on fumes but he is an infectious lad who will be a good addition to the group.

“It was important we added another forward as Yoann Arquin has left the club. His contract expired on Friday and we decided not to renew it.”

The Staggies had to play most of the match with 10 men following the dismissal of midfielder Terry Dunfield in the seventh minute but McIntyre was delighted with his side’s display.

County remain bottom of the Premiership but their point at Dens Park pulled them level with St Mirren, who lost 1-0 at Caley Thistle.

McIntyre said: “Dundee had a lot of the ball but we didn’t give them a lot of chances and when our chance came we took it and it’s a great point for us in the circumstances.

“There are a couple of games where I’ve been disappointed but the application has been fantastic since I came in.

“But we’re not daft, we know we have to turn performances into points as we are in the second half of the season.

“Our confidence hasn’t been dented but we have fallen short when it comes to putting the ball away. The previous game against Inverness wasn’t good enough and I let the players and supporters know that. But equally, this was a fantastic result for us, so it’s only fair I give credit where credit is due.”
