Richie Brittain: Ross County must start climbing the league now

Ross County captain Richard Brittain says talk is cheap unless the Staggies can start winning matches, starting with tomorrow’s Premiership fixture against Partick Thistle.

County are currently bottom of the Premiership, below St Mirren on goal difference, and are six points behind Motherwell, who currently occupy the 10th position required to avoid a relegation play-off.

The Dingwall men are searching for just their second home win of the season when the Jags visit Victoria Park tomorrow and midfielder Brittain, who was part of the side that avoided relegation last season, insists County must rediscover winning form soon in order to retain their top-flight status.

Brittain said: “They’re all important games now. We need to start climbing this league table – we can’t put it off any longer.

“We can’t just keep saying we’ll do it next week. Now is the time, we’ve done all the talking and we need to stand up and be counted now.

“Tomorrow is a big day for us. We’ve got to make this a hard place to come like it has been the last couple of seasons.

“It’s been a very hard place to come for opposing teams previously and we need to get back to that, we need to get back to keeping clean sheets and scoring goals. We’ll be trying to do that against Partick.”

Jim McIntyre’s side go into tomorrow’s game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Dundee on Sunday, despite playing the majority of the match with 10 men following midfielder Terry Dunfield’s ninth-minute dismissal.

Brittain was hugely encouraged by the spirit his side showed to come from a goal down at Dens Park, praising new attacker Craig Curran who netted the equaliser on his debut.

Brittain added: “Craig came in and did fantastic for us. He’s not played for a long time but when you see him making a 60-yard run into the box when he’s dead on his feet, it tells you a lot about his desire.”
