Ross County 1-0 Partick Thistle: Liam Boyce secures Staggies victory

Liam Boyce (centre) races off to celebrate after scoring for Ross County

Ross County got back to winning ways with a comfortable, if lethargic victory against a poor Partick Thistle at Victoria Park.

Liam Boyce’s goal separated the sides in a disappointing game in Dingwall.

County boss Jim McIntyre made three changes to the team which drew 1-1 at Motherwell with Rocco Quinn missing out due to a hamstring strain while captain Andrew Davies was also injured. The other change was a tactical one with Jonathan Franks dropping to the bench with Scott Boyd, Martin Woods and Brian Graham taking the trio’s places in the starting 11.

The meeting of the league’s fourth placed side and the team struggling at the bottom was reflected in the opening exchanges as County pushed forward in search of the opening goal and their perseverance was rewarded in the 18th minute when Jamie Reckord flighted a great cross in from the left for Boyce, who beat Tomas Cerny with an excellent glancing header from eight yards.

Partick responded well to the loss of the goal and came close to equalising when Sean Welsh was sent clear but Scott Fox in the home goal denied his former side when he tipped the midfielder’s low drive away.

The second half provided little in the way of goalmouth action from either side as both goalkeepers played the role of spectators in a poor game, but it mattered little to County, who comfortably repelled the poor attacking play of the visitors to claim another valuable three points.
