Ross County goalkeeper Scott Fox is determined to win back his place in the team after returning from the ankle ligament injury which kept him out for two months.
Fox suffered the injury when he landed awkwardly in the 2-1 derby defeat against Highland rivals Caley Thistle in early October.
The former Partick Thistle goalkeeper was replaced by Englishman Gary Woods, who has started all seven games County have played since.
Fox made his comeback in Tuesday’s Development League 2-0 loss to Dunfermline.
The Dingwall club host St Johnstone in the Premiership this afternoon, and Fox is intent on reclaiming the jersey from on-loan Leyton Orient player Woods.
Fox said: “My ankle is feeling good. It was good to get some game time and it was a bit of a confidence-booster. It was a test as the game was played in Edinburgh, so there was a bit of travelling, and it was played on Astroturf.
“There were a few things against me, but I really enjoyed it and after the game I had a bit more confidence.
“I don’t like being a spectator – I’m a control freak and want to be out playing.
“But there are always highs and there are always lows so I just need to move on from the injury. I’m fit now and have to try to get back in the team.”
The injury came as a huge blow to Fox, who was called up to the Scotland squad for a double-header against United States and Norway in November 2013, with the 28-year-old having impressed since his summer move to Victoria Park.
Despite his good form he does not expect an instant return and added: “I knew Gary would come in and do well – I’ve seen him in training. With me now getting fit, I need to push him. That competition for places was always going to happen with the squad we’ve got here. The manager has done well with his signings.
“It’s either going to be the manager having to make a decision or it’ll be loss of form. I know Gary has done really well so I just have to bide my time.
“We’re in a great position. I’ve said many times before we’re lucky to have the squad we’ve got but it’s my turn to wait now.”
