Russell Martin will play in the heart of the Scotland defence - but who will play alongside him?

Blackburn Rovers defender Grant Hanley will miss tonight’s Scotland v Poland match through injury but who should replace him in Gordon Strachan’s starting line up?

Strachan’s squad features three central defensive options – Christophe Berra, Gordon Greer and Mark Reynolds – but the Scotland boss is yet to confirm which of them will take to the pitch tonight.

The candidates

  • Christophe Berra (Ipswich Town, 28 caps)
  • Gordon Greer (Brighton, 4 caps)
  • Mark Reynolds (Aberdeen, 0 caps)

Reynolds has been in fine form for Aberdeen and could win his very first cap for the national team after representing Scotland at under-20, under-21 and B level.

Berra is the most experienced of the options at international level, with 28 international caps and two goals for Scotland.

However, it is Gordon Greer who is the favourite to get the nod. The former Clyde and Kilmarnock defender has been capped four times by Strachan, including in the 1-0 win over Poland in March.
