Caley Thistle Women aim to make home advantage count against Ayr United

Caley Thistle Women manager Karen Mason has urged her side to make their home advantage count when they hosted Ayr United on Sunday.

The Caley Jags play their next two SWF Championship games at home, as they host Ayr this week and Rossvale the following weekend.

Mason’ side also have a third-round Women’ Scottish Cup home tie against Livingston to look forward to on December 4.

Inverness are undefeated in their last three games at home, with wins against Hutchison Vale and Dryburgh Athletic, and a draw with Renfrew.

However, they host Ayr at Millburn Academy off the back of a 3-1 defeat on the road to Championship league-leaders Livingston.

Mason hopes that her side can make their stomping ground a fortress by capitalising on their recent run of home results and applying that form in their upcoming games.

The Caley boss said: “We’re always confident when we’re playing at home, which is often down to us having more players available for those fixtures in Inverness.

“We tend to play better with our home fans around us as well, so we’ve got to take confidence into this game and give them something to be happy about.

“Home form is hugely important because that’s where you’re expected to pick up points and it’s vital that we return to winning ways after the disappointment of last weekend.

“We’ve got a busy schedule coming up before Christmas so getting the points on the board is really important. We don’t want anyone to be taking points off us at home.”

Caley Thistle’s Kayleigh McKenzie, left, and Megan McCarthy, right.

The two sides met for the first time in the Championship back in October, which finished as a 3-3 draw at Townhead Park.

Mason said she wasn’t able to field her strongest XI in that match, so is expecting this weekend’s clash to be a different sort of game to how that draw panned out.

She explained: “The last time we played Ayr we didn’t have a massive squad and didn’t have our first-choice goalkeeper available, so that made a massive difference.

“I think because of that they were able to go forward a lot more, but equally, we could have gotten at their defensive a bit more.

“We need everyone to step up again this weekend and do their jobs to help the team.”

League One

In SWF League One, Westdyke travel to Paisley to play St Mirren at the SMiSA Stadium, where they will be looking to bounce back from their first taste of defeat.

The Westhill side, who sit second in the fourth-tier table, were beaten for the first time this season when they played FC Edinburgh in their last league game.

The clash between Westdyke and the Buddies will be a big occasion for the home side, as it is the first time the women’s team have played at the main stadium since 2019.

Torry side Grampian Ladies go to Airdrie on Sunday looking to secure a third consecutive win having beaten St Mirren and BSC Glasgow in their previous two games.
