Caley Thistle have rejected an approach from Dundee United to speak to their manager John Hughes about replacing Jackie McNamara at Tannadice.
Hughes, who is out of contract in the summer, guided the Caley Jags to the Scottish Cup and third place in the Scottish Premiership last season.
Club chairman Kenny Cameron said: “On behalf of the board of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, I can confirm that Dundee United have, today, requested permission from the club to open discussions with team manager John Hughes.
“The club have stated previously that we wish John to remain with is for this season and beyond.
“This position has not changed and the approach from Dundee United has been rejected.”
St Johnstone denied United permission to speak to their manager Tommy Wright last week.
