A fledgling Aberdeen curling team aims to compete for Scottish glory next month after challenging Eve Muirhead and her team at the Perth Masters.

Aberdeen skip Maggie Wilson and her team of Rebecca Morrison, Eilidh Yeats and Jennifer Marshall, had an unbeaten run to reach the final in Perth at the weekend before losing 8-2 to Muirhead’s team in the final.

Wilson insists her team’s display has given them confidence they can challenge for the Scottish title at the Scottish Curling Championships at Dewars Centre in Perth from February 8-15.

She said: “We were so happy to get to the final undefeated and with each passing game our confidence grew.

“One of the teams we beat was the Sophie Jackson’s team, the Scottish champions, so that has given us real confidence heading into the Scottish Championships next month.

“Team Muirhead are the favourites but having had the chance to play them in Sunday’s final has given us the belief we can challenge in the competition.”

The skip is thrilled to see the progress being made by the team since its formation.

Wilson said: “The team only came together last year when Rebecca joined.

“We’re really pleased with the progress we have made.

“We play out of Curl Aberdeen but train every weekend at the National Curling Academy in Stirling due to the geography of the team.

“It’s quite a commitment but we’re seeing the benefits of training together every week.”
