Aircraft from the French and United States Navy will be joining the RAF Kinloss Nimrod force in a two-week Nato exercise starting on Monday.

Exercise Joint Warrior will involve Nimrods, US Navy P3s and French Atlantique aircraft, which are all based at Kinloss.

During the exercise the aircraft will be working with submarines and warships off the west coast of Scotland in many sea-based operations.

The UK 4 Hawk and 8 Falcon aircraft and a small number of Tornado GR4 from RAF Lossiemouth will also be taking part. The jets are set to fly between 10am and 11pm in three waves during the week.

RAF Kinloss Station Commander Group Captain Robbie Noel said: “Courses like these ensure that UK and allied military personnel are rigorously prepared for operational tasks in theatres across the globe.

“It is vital that they can operate together effectively and essential that they practice in a safe environment.

“While this is essential training for our personnel, I am mindful of the disruption that flying at night and during the weekend has upon the local area and the programme has been constructed to minimise that activity to the lowest possible extent.”

Exercise Joint Warrior is highly regarded given the excellent training opportunity it presents.

As many of these forces will work together on multinational operations around the world it is an essential part of training. The last exercise to be held at Kinloss this year will be the Tactical Leadership Training Course from November 17-28.
