Pitch perfect: Robbie Williams and Usain Bolt team up for charity football match

Eight-time Olympic champion sprinter Usain Bolt will go head to head with pop star Robbie Williams – on the football pitch.

The pair will meet each other on the field to take part in Soccer Aid later this year.

Bolt announced on Sunday that he was signing for a football team and South African outfit Mamelodi Sundowns hinted it was them by posting a picture on Twitter a day later.

But it was revealed on Tuesday morning that Bolt, who hung up his spikes after the World Championships in London last year, will take part in the star-studded Unicef match at Old Trafford on June 10.

He said: “It is my dream to make it as a professional footballer, so to be able to step out onto the pitch at Old Trafford in June, and play against some of football’s biggest legends, is going to be remarkable.”

Singer Williams, who is a Unicef UK ambassador and co-founder of Soccer Aid, said he was “buzzing” that the event was back.

He said: “Reclaiming the title for England this year is going to taste so much sweeter with Usain leading the Soccer Aid World XI.

“I can’t wait to lead out the England team on Sunday June 10 at Old Trafford in what really is a game like no other.

“With your support, we will help children in danger around the world.”

Soccer Aid for Unicef has previously featured A-list stars such as Hollywood actor Will Ferrell, One Direction’s Niall Horan and True Detective star Woody Harrelson.

The match has also seen some of football’s biggest names including Maradona, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho take to the pitch in aid of charity.
