Snow failed to deter farmers from attending the Royal Northern Spring Show at Thainstone, Inverurie, yesterday.
The main results were:
Exhibition cattle: Overall and heifer champion: J. Robertson and Co, Newton of Logierait, Ballinluig, with a 376kg Limousin cross. Reserve overall and reserve heifer: William Moir, Home Farm, Fraserburgh, with a 448kg British Blue cross, Magic Mojo.
Bullock champion: James McConachie and Son, Lethendry, Grantown, with a 390kg Limousin cross, Mr Muscle. Reserve bullock: Mark Robertson, Fodderletter, Tomintoul, Ballindalloch, with a 480kg British Blue cross, Gordy.
SHEEP
Prime hoggs on the hoof: Roddy Thomson, West Park, Aberfeldy, Perthshire, with a pair of light Beltex cross hoggs, by a Tiree tup and out of a Beltex cross ewe. Reserve: Roddy Thomson with a pair of heavy Beltex cross hoggs, with the same breeding as the champion pair.
Breeding sheep: Harry Sleigh, St John’s Wells, Fyvie, with a pen of three Half-bred hoggs bought in Caithness. shown by Harry’s 17-year-old son Stewart, two were bought from the Millers of Aimster and one was from Fiona Anderson, Overton. Reserve: John Gordon, Wellheads, Huntly, with a pen of three Mule hoggs.
