Inverness Airport has extended its seven-year partnership with a local taxi firm.

The new seven-year deal gives Inverness Taxis, one of the largest cab operators in the Highlands, with more than 150 vehicles, exclusive access to the terminal’s dedicated taxi ranks.

Airport owner Highlands and Islands Airports said yesterday the contract extension would usher in some changes to embrace new technology for the benefit of passengers.

Inverness Taxis is due to introduce online booking stations in the arrivals hall.

It also plans to install real-time CCTV monitoring of the taxi ranks, allowing vehicles to be dispatched quickly when demand is high.

In addition, the taxi firm has developed our own free info app, UrPal, which has everything a visitor needs to know about the Highlands, including information on events, tours and restaurants.

Inverness Taxis managing director Gavin Johnston said: “The airport contract is a very important part of our business and we are always looking for ways to improve our service.

“We can now accept credit card payments, as well as offering in-car W-Fi access, which is perfect for our business users.”

Mr Johnston predicted an increase in passenger numbers through the airport this year, adding the growing reputation of the North Coast 500 road trip in the north was helping to boost tourism in the region.

Visitors wanting a taxi from the airport would be greeted by WorldHost-trained drivers who have a wide knowledge of the Highlands and are happy to offer advice and recommendations, he added.

Airport duty manager Callum Smith said: “As our affiliated taxi concession, Inverness Taxi’s drivers don’t incur any drop-off charges at the airport

“We are delighted to be able to continue working with the company and, together, we hope our customers will experience an exceptional, customer-focused service.”
