Saturday saw the launch of one of the north-east’s most loved October holiday outings – pumpkin picking at the Udny Pumpkin patch.

The much-loved family-friendly activity of going to hand pick your very own pumpkin for Halloween at Udny Pumpkins has been growing in popularity since the patch opened in 2017, with a whopping 8000 beautiful squashes up for grabs this year.

The ticketed event has become such a hit in recent years that this year’s batch sold out within just two minutes of going on sale online.

Little kids and big kids alike pulled on their welly boots, grabbed a wheelbarrow – or in some cases jumped in to one – and took to the fields to begin the important task of selecting the most perfect pumpkin.

And there were some excellent photo opportunities along the way.

There are over 20 varieties of squash on offer – monster ones, tiny ones, warty ones and stripey ones, all ready to find a loving new home or become a tasty Halloween treat.

Udny Pumpkins offers fun for all the family, with baby chicks to stroke, sheep to make friends with and even a beehive to peak the interest of the little ones.

If you’re visiting on a chilly Autumn day, you can even warm up with a fresh cup of delicious homemade pumpkin soup or a sweet hot chocolate.

Check out our gallery to see if you can spot any familiar faces from Saturday’s launch, with images by Kami Thomson/DC Thomson.
