A north-east town centre had to be closed off yesterday after fire crews were called in to rescue an injured person from the roof of a building.
Emergency services were alerted shortly after 11am on Sunday when a man became injured while on top of a former night club in Peterhead.
It is not known why the man, whose name and age have not been revealed, was on the roof.
A fire crew from Peterhead used an engine to block Marischal Street before police arrived to tape off the area.
Last night, a spokeswoman for the fire service said the man’s condition was not known.
He was taken by paramedics on the scene after a hydraulic crane was used to get him off the roof of Drummer’s Bar.
“Two fire engines and a height appliance attended,” she said.
“We got the call at 11.02am and were there by 11.07am.
“There was a person on a roof that we had to assist and get down from the roof.”
The injured man appeared to be strapped to a spinal board while he was being taken off the building.
He was then transferred to a waiting stretcher while crowds gathered to take pictures of the drama.
A police spokesman said their role at the scene was to assist the fire service.
He said: “There was an injured man on the roof of a building there.
“The fire brigade had been asked to come get him down.”
Emergency crews were at the scene for about two hours to make sure the building, which has been closed for several years, was safe.
The closed section of Marischal Street was re-opened by 1pm.
Drummer’s Bar and the upstairs Nemesis nightclub has been closed since at least 2012.
It made headlines in 2009 as a potential stage for UK songstress Alexandra Burke, who had to play a gig in the port because of her sponsorship with mobile phone company Nokia.
Thousands of people from the town voted in a competition to bring the singer to Peterhead over the likes of Manchester and London.
