A north-east care worker has been named as one of the best in the business.

Sarah Taylor, who works at Rubislaw Park Care Home in Aberdeen, has made it through to the final of the Scottish Care Awards in the Carer of the Year category.

She will travel to the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Friday for the awards ceremony to find out if she is named as the overall winner.

The event will be hosted singer Michelle McManus and attended by more than 700 people.

The awards aim to recognise people in the sector who show dedication and go the extra mile.

Mrs Taylor joined the Rubislaw Park Care Home in February 2015 having previously spent 16 years at Hawkhill Care Home in Milltimber.

The 46-year-old said: “I was by nominated the director who came in and told me I’d made it to the finals.

“I am very surprised but thrilled and honoured to be chosen as a finalist in these prestigious awards.

“It will be a great night.”

Kristin Jackson-Brown, the director of care at the home, praised the efforts that Mrs Taylor puts in at the home.

She said: “Sarah is a highly inspirational individual.

“She works so hard in her role as care assistant and builds effective and meaningful relationships with residents, their families and staff alike.

“She provides a high level of support and we are all very proud of her.”
