The streets of Aberdeen will be filled with some of the best cyclists in Britain today as the latest stage of the Tour Series arrives in the city.

A full day of activities will be held to encourage people to go get back on their bikes.

The line-up has been supported by several local businesses, which are planning special deals and events to mark the occasion.

The race will begin on Union Street, moving on to Union Terrace before turning on to Rosemount Viaduct.

They will enter Union Street again, before doubling back at the Market Street junction to head up Union Street where they will complete a lap.

A series of amateur races will be held between 1.00pm and 6.00pm, with the Tour Series event due to start at 7.30pm.

The winners will be presented with their prizes at 9.00pm, and free activities will be held on Union Terrace Gardens throughout the day.

Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “With the combination of the imminent Tour Series and the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday, it has been fantastic to see local businesses getting into the spirit and enjoying the build-up by creating wonderful displays throughout the city centre.

“Events of this scale, which will undoubtedly draw large crowds to the heart of Aberdeen, are of vital importance to the city and we are all looking forwarding to giving some of the country’s best cyclists a huge welcome.

“As well as their eye-catching displays, a range of businesses are offering cycling themed promotions which we would urge onlookers to take advantage of and enjoy. We can’t wait to take in the vibrant atmosphere in the city centre.”

Live performances from The Clan Cycle Stunt Team, historic bike displays, bike health checks and a Get About Roadshow are just some of the events planned.

Scottish cycling legend Graeme Obree is also hosting a sold out evening session at Aberdeen Central Library.
