Royal Deeside gears up for latest Speed Festival

The Royal Deeside Speed Fest gears up for second year.
The Royal Deeside Speed Fest gears up for second year.

The countdown has begun for the return of the Royal Deeside Speed Festival (RDSF) this month in aid of charity Children 1st.

A dedicated group of organisers is busy carrying out important ground works before it welcomes enthusiastic spectators through the gates on August 20 at Kincardine Castle.

Now in its second year and promising to expand on the success of 2016, the event will showcase the largest gathering of rare and historic cars and motorbikes anywhere in the north-east – many of which will not be seen anywhere else in Scotland.

The main attraction will be a demonstration speed hill climb, trade stands, off-road rides and the Soapbox Derby.

The picturesque castle estate, in the conservation village Kincardine O’Neil, will also be playing host to a selection of car clubs along with a local food, drink and craft festival.

A programme of improvement at the castle, including the construction of new paths to increase spectator viewing opportunities along the hill climb course, has been implemented after rainfall last year caused some disruption.

Castle owner Andrew Bradford said last year’s event was a “roaring success”, despite the weather.

“The inch or so of rain that fell in little over an hour the night before certainly tested some of our arrangements even though the day itself was glorious,” he said.

RDSF partner Morag Yule hopes that the changes will go down well and added: “We took on board all feedback and formulated a plan which we have been working through over the winter.

“For new guests joining us for the first time, we expect that you will enjoy a wonderful day out – for returning guests, we are sure you will notice and benefit from the changes we are making.”

Royal Deeside Speed Festival takes place on Sunday, August 20, at Kincardine Castle, from 9.45am to 5.15pm. Adult tickets cost £15 and concessions cost £12.50.
