Police have confirmed that a body believed to be that of a missing hillwalker has been found on Lochnagar following a massive search today.
The force issued a statement this afternoon, saying: “In respect of the search for a missing hillwalker in Lochnagar, we can confirm that about noon, a body was found which is believed to be that of the missing person.”
Inspector Darren Bruce of the South Aberdeenshire Command Area added: “Trained Mountain Rescue Teams have worked tirelessly and in extremely difficult conditions this weekend.
“It is sad to learn that someone has succumbed to the elements. Our thoughts are with family and friends at this time.”
