An Aberdeen-born veteran has won three medals in this year’s Invictus Games.
The global sporting event for wounded, injured and sick armed forces personnel was attended by the games’ founder Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan Markle.
Michael Mellon, Scotland’s only representative in the games, won silvers in sitting volleyball and wheelchair rugby, and a bronze in wheelchair basketball.
The 38-year-old was medically discharged from the RAF in 2005.
After receiving support from veterans charity Help for Heroes, he was encouraged to compete in the Invictus Games last year.
Speaking on his second foray into the tournament Mr Mellon said: “The Invictus Games mean so much to me and I love being back in a military environment.
“When I was discharged in 2005 I had gone from being super fit when I was in the infantry to being much less active due to my injury.
“I struggled with depression and piled on the weight and went up to 21 stone.
“When I lost my leg it was a fresh start.
“I was determined to get the weight off and to get fit and healthy again.
“The biggest thing for me has been meeting up with the boys and going to the training camps, you always get loads of fun and banter which carries over into the Games.”
Over 500 competitors from 18 nations took part in 11 adaptive sports in the Games, which ran from October 20-27.
