Staff at a north-east primary school and nursery have been praised after receiving good and very good ratings in a recent inspection.

New Deer Primary School and Nursery class were inspected by both Education Scotland and the Care Inspectorate.

Both agencies found the establishments have key strengths across a number of areas.

The inspectorate ranked the quality of the environment, staffing, care and support, and management and leadership as very good or good.

It was good across the board in the report from Education Scotland on all quality indicators.

The school and nursery were recognised for the “caring, nurturing and inclusive environment” which enabled children to be confident, responsible and ready to learn.

Staff strength as a team, their effective and creative use of digital technology, and high level of community involvement were also noted as key positives.

Councillor Gillian Owen, chairwoman of Aberdeenshire Council’s education and children’s services committee, said: “Well done to the whole team at New Deer Primary School and Nursery for all their hard work and commitment.

“It is always pleasing to see this recognised through the inspection process and I am particularly thrilled to see the very effective relationships across the school community noted as creating a purposeful focus on improvement.”

Vice chairman Mark Findlater added: “We are continually striving to give our best for the children and young people of Aberdeenshire.

“It’s great to see not only that a school is doing so well, but at the same time they’re continually working on making further improvements.”
