Police and shops in Inverurie are working together to reduce instances of illegal parking in the town centre.
A number of retailers have joined the ‘Park-Safe Inverurie’ scheme and are displaying posters encouraging their customers to ensure they have parked safely and responsibly before using their shop.
Local policing inspector Gareth Hannan said: “Despite social media appeals and increased police enforcement, it is disappointing that a number of motorists continue to park on double yellow lines in Inverurie town centre.
“I have spoken to a number of such motorists and the excuse I always hear is,’ I was only parked for a minute.’ Every minute you park on double yellow lines increases the risk to other road users and there is no excuse for parking illegally, be it in Inverurie or any other location.”
