The future of an Aberdeenshire organisation which tackles social isolation has been secured for at least another year.

Inverurie and District Stroke Club has been running for 35 years, working to improve its members’ physical and mental health, and providing some respite for their carers.

It offers activities including indoor bowling, exercise classes and day trips to people who have had a stroke.

The organisation has now been awarded a £4,000 grant from The Crerar Trust, which will allow it to continue operating until at least next year.

Honorary president Carol Mackie said: “We fund 90% of the club’s running costs through kind donations from the public, fundraisers and applying for grants such as the Crerar Trust.

“To receive £4,000 secures our club for at least the next 12 months which is fantastic.

“Inverurie and District Stroke Club will be 35 years old this year which is testament to its place in our community and our committee is committed to ensuring it remains viable and relevant.”

The Crerar Trust is the charitable arm of the Crerar Gotel Group, and donates more than 50% of its distributable profits to good causes every year.

Paddy Crerar, trust chairman and Crerar Hotels chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have made this award to Inverurie and District Stroke Club and look forward to hearing how this funding helps impact their work.”
