Coronavirus: Some Aberdeenshire schools to be closed from tomorrow

Aberdeenshire Council has announced more school closures as staff go into coronavirus self-isolation.

Two more primary schools – Dunnottar and Elrick – have been shut due to a “critical staffing situation”.

Those add to the earlier closures of Alford Primary and Barthol Chapel schools yesterday.

The local authority announced some of its secondary schools are also to partially close from tomorrow, ahead of the closure of all Scottish schools at the end of the week.

Those measures will come into force at Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Mearns, Portlethen, Turriff and Westhill academies tomorrow.

Pupils in S1-S3 are to be excused attendance but will be expected to complete work at home.

Kemnay will introduce similar measures on Friday.

A number of the schools said it was down to a struggle to have enough staff, as more go into isolation as per government guidelines.

A spokesman for Fraserburgh Academy said the early partial closure was being introduced “due to teacher absence as per guidance on social distancing and self-isolation”.

He added: “There are no confirmed cases of Covid-19 in school.

“This situation will be reviewed and updated.”
