Two Aberdeen men who were caught in a car laden with cannabis resin worth up to £7,000 have been jailed.
Kevin Bruce, 33, of Auchlea Place, and Jake Garden, 23, of Howes Drive, admitted being concerned in the supplying of the drug on the M74 near Ecclefechan in November 2013.
Dumfries Sheriff Court was told that Bruce had become involved in an effort to help a friend out of debt while Garden had built up a debt himself, and following threats of violence had agreed to take the cannabis north from Manchester.
When stopped in a routine check, both men appeared nervous and said they had been in Manchester for a boxing match – but neither could name a boxer who was taking part.
Bruce, who had previous convictions, was jailed for 12 months and Garden was jailed for nine months.
