Bookworms can enjoy a series of events running in Aberdeen’s libraries next week.

To mark Book Week Scotland, workshops, talks and author Q&A sessions will be held at libraries across the city.

Hillwalker, writer and broadcaster Cameron McNeish will hold a talk at Central Library on November 16. The Glasgow-born writer, will answer questions on his latest book, An Eye to the Hills, which is the third and part of his trilogy of “mountain memoirs.”

Mr McNeish said: “This book is a love letter to the hills and mountains of Scotland, a longstanding relationship that has changed my life for the better.”

The free illustrated talk will begin at 6pm and will be followed by a book signing. Booking is essential.

Meanwhile, author and activist Zoe Playdon will unfold the story of Aberdeenshire baron Ewan Forbes, whose legal case shone early light on the status of transgender people in the UK.

Ms Playdon will be presenting her book The Hidden Case of Ewan Forbes at a free event, held at the Sir Duncan Rice Library in Aberdeen University on November 14.

She will outline the extraordinary court case that ensued and how the author uncovered records that for many years had been deemed too controversial for public view.

The book brought new attention to the case and has been described as “one of the most important pieces of investigative journalism ever written about trans people”.

Animators Assemble

For younger story lovers, there will be an animators workshop at Tillydrone Library on November 18.

In this session, children who are fans of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep can become animators for the afternoon as they learn the technique of stop-motion.

It will run from 2pm-3.30pm, and is suitable for children over eight.

A creative writing workshop will also be run by Aberdeen University lecturer and local writer Wayne Price on November 19.

He will use the session at Central Library to help anyone over 16 hone their skills by offering essential tips and techniques.

Young fans of shows like Wallace and Gromit can become animators for the day at a workshop in Aberdeen on November 18.

Aberdeen City Council’s culture spokesman Martin Greig said: “The wide range of activities and talks is a great way to encourage people into the wonderful world of books.

“It is great that local libraries are able to offer these exciting opportunities of reading and storytelling.”
