Willie Young, the finance convener of Aberdeen City Council, has resigned from his position as the secretary for the city’s Labour group.
Councillor Young announced his decision last night at a Labour group meeting, stating that he wanted to spend more time focusing on his property development firm Deeview Homes Ltd.
As secretary for the group, Councillor Young was in charge of overseeing and distributing council reports for committee meetings and other responsibilities.
Councillor Gordon Graham, who represents the Northfield and Mastrick North ward, will now take on the position after being unanimously backed by Labour group members.
Councillor Young has been the group’s secretary for the past 8 years.
Speaking today Councillor Young said: “I need to focus more on my business and this will allow me time to do this.
“I’m also a solicitor and I’m going to go back to that as well.”
