The next phase of a Mearns development has cleared its first planning hurdle.
Plans for 69 affordable houses at the Ury Estate, near Stonehaven, were yesterday backed by the Kincardine and Mearns area committee.
The homes – a mixture of bungalows, flats, and terraced and semi-detached structures – will neighbour the recently approved £80million Jack Nicklaus championship golf course on the grounds.
The FM Group are behind the redevelopment of the Ury Estate, however the Glasgow-based Sanctuary Housing Association submitted the affordable housing plans.
The firm also has permission to built 230 homes at the spot, and is currently restoring the B-listed Ury House as a hotel and clubhouse. The 18-hole course was backed along with 90 homes at Ury in early May.
Yesterday, full planning permission was being sought for the homes across two applications – one for 37 buildings and another for 32.
The committee supported approving the plans on a delegated grant.
They will now go before the infrastructure services committee for determination at a later date.
FM Group director, Jonathon Milne, said: “We are delighted. It will be affordable and I don’t think there is much like that being built in Stonehaven.
“It is all good, having councillors behind it is ideal.”
