A longstanding publican couple will soon be pulling their last pints as they seek to sell their Aberdeen watering hole after more than 30 years.

Andy and Anne Chapman have been proud owners of the Kittybrewster Bar and Ashgrove Lounge since they bought the establishment with Mrs Chapman’s parents, Nan and Sandy Stuart, in 1984.

Industry stalwarts Mr and Mrs Stuart sold their share when they retired in 1995, making the Chapmans the sole owners.

However, the pair have now decided to retire and are selling the historic premises for offers over £480,000.

It will be the first time the venue has been put on the open market.

Mrs Chapman said: “When my parents bought it the previous family had owned it since it was first established as a temperance hotel, so this is the first time it will ever have been out of the hands of one of our families.”

The Stuarts were well known mine hosts for decades, with the Donview, Pavilion and Golden Cairn all passing through their hands.

Mrs Chapman said: “My parents had been involved in the pub scene since I was 12 so it really is something I’ve just grown up with.

“Bar work is constant, you don’t get much time to yourself and now I have a granddaughter I’d love to spend more time with her, but I’ll also miss all the wonderful customers and regulars. You really get to know them and feel like part of their lives.

“I’ve really loved my time here but the time has come to leave it now.”

Jamie Jackson, a licensed trade specialist at Christie and Co’s Edinburgh Office is handling the sale.

He said: “This is an excellent opportunity for either a first time buyer or an existing operator to purchase a superb pub and lounge bar that has an excellent local following.

“This is the first time the business has been openly marketed in over 30 years so I am very excited to bring the business to market and help the owners start their retirement as soon as possible.

“The Scottish licensed trade sector is not without its challenges but we are however seeing year-on-year improvements and increased prices so I am optimistic that the market will carry on improving despite these hurdles”.
