Three people have been arrested after a high-profile police incident in an Aberdeen housing estate yesterday.

Witnesses reported seeing a large number of police vehicles and officers pursuing a Peugeot through the Mastrick area of the city at about 2pm.

One woman said she saw about eight officers chasing after a suspect as he laughed and taunted them.

The man allegedly jumped fences and shouted “come catch me” at the pursuing police while they “struggled” to keep up.

The Arnage Drive resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I watched the whole thing from my window.

“When I saw him he was running down Derry Avenue towards Mastrick Road at some speed.

“He was a lot quicker than the police and was laughing at them and shouting ‘come catch me’ and stuff like that.

“There were about eight of them after him but he jumped over a fence on Mastrick Road into a garden.

“He was really far ahead of them and was still laughing his head off.

“But one of them got him and the rest all piled on top.”

Police later confirmed an “incident relating to a Peugeot motor car” had taken place, but refused to give any further details.

A spokesman said the three arrested would appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.

He said: “During the afternoon of Sunday, May 31, 2015 Police Scotland were involved in an incident in the Mastrick area of Aberdeen relating to a Peugeot motor car.

“Following this, three persons were detained and will be appearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday.”

Mastrick North councillor Gordon Graham said: “I’m glad that the police seem to have the situation under control.

“If anybody ever witnesses anything like this they should always report it to the police.”
