A north-east offshore worker has been ordered to stay out of trouble after he emptied the contents a bottle of beer and a milkshake on his girlfriend.

James Stitchell left Laura Ferguson bleeding and bruised after the early morning attack.

As well as throwing the liquid over his partner of 12 months, the 37-year-old also bent back her fingers and pushed her in the chest, causing her to trip and fall.

The roustabout, of 79 Westerton Crescent, Aberdeen, admitted carrying out the assault at an address in Westhill on May 3 this year when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.

The court heard the incident took place during the early hours after a fight broke out between the pair.

Fiscal depute Jamie Dunbar said: “At 2.30am an argument took place between the accused and the complainer, the argument thereafter escalated.

“The accused threw a milkshake over the complainer in the kitchen then pushed the complainer on the chest causing her to stumble backwards.

“The injury was minor bruises to the fingers on the complainer’s left hand and blood at the fingernails. There was no medical attention required.”

Stitchell was also accused of seizing Ms Ferguson, repeatedly slapping her on the head and face and pinning her against a wall but the Crown accepted he had not acted in this way.

His agent, solicitor advocate Ian Woodward-Nutt, said his client’s career was currently under threat and asked for a three-month deferral to allow him to be of good behaviour.

However, Sheriff Jim Scott said: “The death penalty being unavailable in this court, I will defer sentence for six months.

“If there is any further nonsense of this kind at all, options including prison will remain open to the court.”

Stitchell will return to court for sentence on April 13.
