A repeat drug offender was jailed for more than five and half years yesterday after he was caught with bags of heroin.

Police raided Richard Whyte’s home in Kellands Road, Inverurie, after acting on intelligence and found about £4,500 worth of the Class A drug.

They also discovered a tick list and other items such as tinfoil and mobile phones. A wallet containing more than a £1000 was also found.

Whyte said he was a drug user who sold heroin because he had fallen into debt and been threatened, said advocate depute Lisa Gillespie.

Whyte, 37, who has previously been jailed for drug offences, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin between December 1 last year and January 28 this year.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, defence counsel Tony Lenehan said when Whyte was last released he had met an acquaintance who also had “a drugs past”.

Whyte had begun using heroin again and would be provided with quantities of an ounce to an ounce and a half to sell.

Lord Turnbull jailed Whyte for five years and 219 days for the latest offence.
