A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 44-year-old father-of-three in Fort William last month.
Police Scotland confirmed last night that a 41-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of Mark Maguire, from Bishopbriggs near Glasgow.
He died in hospital in Glasgow after being transferred from Fort William on Sunday, May 13.
The man is expected to appear at Fort William Sheriff Court tomorrow.
Detective Inspector Richard Baird said: “Following extensive inquiries into the death of Mark Maguire I can confirm that a 41-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
“Our thoughts at this time are very much with Mark’s family, who continue to be supported by specially-trained officers.
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while our investigation has been carried out.”
Mr Maguire was found with serious injuries on Achintore Road in the Lochaber town near the Cruachan Hotel at around 3.50am.
Two men, aged 41 and 22 and believed to be known to Mr Maguire, were interviewed and arrested at the time.
Police Scotland said the 22-year old man has been eliminated from the inquiry without charge.
The incident occurred as hundred of revellers were out celebrating in Fort William at the end of the huge-popular Six Days Trial cycling event in Lochaber.
Mr Maguire was initially rushed to Belford Hospital in Fort William before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
